Alphabet

• Alphabet books are a great beginning literacy tool to use with preschoolers.

• As children begin to associate language with text, it's important to provide books that are rich in vocabulary and that appeal to their senses of curiosity and wonder about the world.

• Alphabet picture books provide opportunities for children to exercise their letter recognition skills, which is an essential requirement for a child’s mastery of alphabet knowledge.

• Alphabet knowledge encompasses kinesthetic, visual and phonetic comprehension of the alphabet, all of which include letter recognition, sounds associated with each letter, and the ability to write each letter.

• Practicing the alphabet promotes early steps to literacy and helps to enforce school readiness skills for preschoolers.
